velocity and displacement are vectors. so they

both have a magnitude and a direction.

so, when a object travels from a to b,

irrespective of the paths it takes, the

displacement is the straight vector drawn from a

to b with the vector pointing towards .

so let the vector of the displacement of the car

traveling 1km from a to b be v1 and when

it returns from b to a , let b vector v2

scene they both a magnitude of 1km and v1 and

v2 are in opposite directions,

v1=v2.

so the total displacement,v1+v2=0

therefore,the velocity also zero
