Time taken for first 30 km =30/40hrs
Time taken for next 30 km = 30/40hrs
Time taken for last 30 km = 30/20 hrs
Therefore,
average speed = total distance covered/total time taken
= (30 +30+30)/[(30/40)+(30/40)+(30/20)]
= 120/3=40 km/ h
