68.67 km/hr

Explanation:

Given:

  • Car travels 40 km in 30 minutes
  • Next 40 km in 40 minutes.

To Find:

  • Average speed of the car

Solution: We know that

Average Speed = Total Distance/ Total Time

\small\implies{\sf } Total Distance = (40 + 40) km = 80 km

\small\implies{\sf } Total Time = (30 + 40) minutes = 70 minutes

Here distance is in Km and time is in minutes so we have to change it in Km/hr

60 minutes = 1 Hour

30 minutes = 30/60 = 1/2 Hours and

40 minutes = 40/60 = 2/3 Hours

\small\implies{\sf } Total time taken in hours = 1/2 + 2/3

\small\implies{\sf } 3 + 5/6

\small\implies{\sf } 7/6 Hours

Therefore,Average speed = 80 ÷ 7/6

\small\implies{\sf } 80 x 6/7

\small\implies{\sf } 480/7

\small\implies{\sf } 68.57 km/hr

Hence, Average speed of car during entire journey is 68.67 km/hr
