Given:
Speed in Case 1 = 40 km /h
Distance travelled in Case 1 = 80 km
Speed in Case 2 = 20 km /h
Distance travelled in Case 2 = 30 km
Average Speed = ?
Solution:
We know that Speed = Distance /Time
=> Time in Case 1 = Distance travelled in Case 1 /Speed in Case 1
= 80 /40 = 2 Hours
Similarly, Time in Case 2 = Distance travelled in Case 2 /Speed in Case 2
= 30 /20 = 1.5 Hours
We know that Average Speed = Total distance travelled /Total Time taken
=> Average speed = [80 + 30] /[2 + 1.5]
= 110 /3.5
= 31.43 km /h [approximately]
