A car travels a certain distance from A to B with a speed of 60 km h-1 and then returns to the starting point with a speed of 40 km h-1. Find the average speed and average velocity of the car.

The average speed = 48km/h and The average velocity is zero

Explanation:

Let the distance from A to B is x km

From A to B,

t1= x/60

From B to A,

t2= x/40

Since Average Speed = Total Speed/Total Time

Total time t = x/60 + x/40 = x/24

Total distance = 2x

Avg speed = 2x/x/24 = 2*24= 48km/h

And Average Velocity = Total Displacement/Total Time

Displacement= Shortest distance between starting and end point

Here Starting and End point is same,Therefore Displacement = 0

So, Average Velocity = 0
