A car travels a certain distance with a speed of 50 km/h, and returns with a speed of 40 km/h. Calculate the average speed for the whole journey.

Given S1 = 50km/h. S2 = 40km/h

let the distance be x.

t1 = x/50

t2 = x/40

average speed = total distance covered/
total time taken
= x/x/50+x/40
=x/40x+50x/2000
=2000x/90x
=200/9
= 22.2km/h
