A car travels along a straight road with a speed of 60 km/h for 24 minutes and then with a speed of 96 km/h for 24 minutes more and finally travels with a speed of 111 km/h for 24 minutes more. Average speed of the car, during this period, is
(1) 72 km/h (2) 84 km/h (3) 89 km/h (4) 90 km/h

Answer:

Explanation:

Average speed= total distance / total time

d1 = s1 * t1 = 60 kmph * 24 min = 600/9 m/s * 1440 sec = 24000 m

d2 = s2 *t2 = 96 kmph * 24 min =  80/3 m/s * 1440 sec = 38400 m

d3 = s3 *t3 = 111 kmph * 24 min = 185/6 m/s * 1440 sec = 44400 m

avg speed = 24000+38400+44400 /  4320

                  = 106800 /4320

                  24.72222222222222
