To Find,

Solution,

Distance covered during the first time period -

Speed = 20 km/hr

Time taken = 2 hrs

Therefore, the distance travelled by the car = 20 x 2 = 40 km.

Distance covered during the second time period-

Speed = 60 km

Time taken = 2 hrs

Therefore, the distance covered = 60 x 2 = 120 km.

Total distance = 40 + 120 = 160 km

Total time taken = 2+2 = 4 hrs

Average speed = $\frac{Total distance}{Total time taken}$

Substituting the values we found,

= $\frac{160}{4}$ = 40 km/hr is the average speed of the car.
