PHYSICS

Given,

A car travels at a speed of 20km /hr. for 2 h and at 60 km /h for the next 2hr.

To Find,

The average speed of the car.

Solution,

Distance covered during the first time period -

Speed = 20 km/hr

Time taken = 2 hrs

Therefore, the distance travelled by the car = 20 x 2 = 40 km.

Distance covered during the second time period-

Speed = 60 km

Time taken = 2 hrs

Therefore, the distance covered = 60 x 2 = 120 km.

Total distance = 40 + 120 = 160 km

Total time taken = 2+2 = 4 hrs

Average speed = \frac{Total distance}{Total time taken}

Substituting the values we found,

= \frac{160}{4} = 40 km/hr is the average speed of the car.

=> A car is traveling certain distance in certain time as

=> For 2 hr with 20 km/hr = 2 × 20 = 40 km will be covered

=> For another 2 hr 60 km/hr = 2 × 60 = 120 km will be covered

=> Total distance covered = 40km + 120km = 160km

=> Total time taken is = 2hr + 2hr = 4hr

=> Average speed = ( total distance) / ( total time ) = 160/ 4 = 40 km/hr

Answer =Average speed of the car is 40 km/hr
