Hey there !

Average speed= Total distance traveled /total time taken

Distance = 40 km [ 1 hr ]

= 40 x 2 = 80 km in 2 hrs

= 60 km [ 1 hr ]

= 60 x 3 = 180 km in 3 hr

Total distance = 180 + 80 = 260 km

Total time = 2+3 = 5 hrs

Average speed = 260/5

= 52 km/hr

Hope this Helps You !!

Explanation:

Distance = Speed × Time

Distance d¹ = (40 × 2) = 80km

Distance d² = (60 × 3) = 180km

 \mid{average \: speed   =  \frac{total \: distance}{total \: time}  }

Total Distance travelled = d¹ + d² = (80 + 180)km = 260km

Total time taken = (2 + 3) hr = 5hrs

Average speed = \frac{260}{5} = 52km/hr

The average speed of the car during the entire journey is 52km/hr
