Distance travelled d = speed s x time t
1st part of journey: d = st = 80 x (1/4) = 20 km
2nd part of journey: d = st = 40 x (1/4) = 10 km
Average Speed = Total distance d/Total time taken t = 30/((1/4)+(1/4)) = 30/(1/2) = 60 km/h.
