Answer: total time taken = 1.25 hours; average speed = 48 km/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

The car travels

First 30 km ——— speed = 60km/hr

Next 30 km ——— speed = 40 km/hr

We know that

Speed = distance / time

=> time = distance / speed

Using this, we get

Time 1 = 30/60 = 1/2 hours

Time 2 = 30/40 = 3/4 hours

Total time = 1/2 + 3/4 = 10/8 hours = 1.25 hours

Average speed = total distance travelled/ total time taken

Using this and solving, we get

Average speed = (30 + 30)/ (10/8) = (60 * 8) / 10 = 8 * 6 = 48 km/hr

Average speed = 48 km/hr
