Let the distance = x

Total distance =x+x

=2x

time for 1st journey = t1 = distance / speed

t1 = x / 20

Time for 2nd journey = t2 = distance / speed

t2 = x / 30

Total time = t1 + t2

= x / 20 + x / 30

=(3x+2x)/60

5x /60

Average speed = Total distance / Total time

= 2x / 5x / 60

= 2x × 60 / 5 x

=24km / h
