A car travels from point A to B in 3 hours and returns back to point A in 5 hours. Points A
and B are 150 miles apart along a straight highway. Which of the following statements most
accurately describes the motion of the car?

Given info : A car travels from point A to B in 3 hours and returns back to point A in 5 hours. Points A and B are 150 miles apart along a straight highway.

To find : total displacement , average velocity and average speed of car are..

solution : we know, displacement is the minimum desperation between initial point to final point.

here, car moves from A to B and then returns B to A.

it means, initial position of car = final position of car

so, displacement = final position - initial position = 0

Therefore total displacement of car is 0 mile.

now average velocity = total displacement/total time taken = 0/(5 hrs + 3 hrs) = 0 miles/hr

average speed = total distance covered/total time taken

= (150 miles + 150 miles)/(5 hrs + 3 hrs)

= 300/8 miles/hr

= 37.5 miles/hr

Therefore the correct option is (C) The average speed of car is 37.5 miles per hour.

Hola ⚘⚘

Given:

  • A car travels from point A to B in 3 hours and returns back to point A in 5 hours. Points A and B are 150 miles apart along a straight highway.

Tofind:

  • Total displacement
  • Average velocity
  • Average speed

Calculation:

According to the given data, car moved from point A to point B, And returns point B to point A. here, which means

>> displacement = final position - initial position

>> displacement = 0

>> Average velocity = 0/(5+3)

>> Average velocity = 0

>> Average speed = (150+150)/(5+3)

>> Average speed = 300/8

>> Average speed = 37.5 miles per hour

Hence, Option (c) is the correct one [✓]
