Answer:

Explanation: Speed(s)=distance(d)/time(t)

Let us assume the total distance travelled to be 3x.

So the car travels x distance with each speed.

Since, s=d/t,

t=d/s

So the total time taken would be

T=x/40 + x/50 + x/60

Total distance, D=3x

Avg speed = D/T = 3x/( x/40 + x/50 + x/60 )

Cancel x from numerator and denominator and solve for average speed

let distance to be covered is 1800.

then time taken for first 1/3 is T

1

=

10

600

=60sec

time taken for second 1/3 is T

1

=

20

600

=30sec

time taken for third 1/3 is T

1

=

60

600

=10sec

total time taken is 100 sec.

av velocity is

=18km/s

this another way you can do it

Speed(s)=distance(d)/time(t)

Let us assume the total distance travelled to be 3x.

So the car travels x distance with each speed.

Since, s=d/t,

t=d/s

So the total time taken would be

T=x/40 + x/50 + x/60

Total distance, D=3x

Avg speed = D/T = 3x/( x/40 + x/50 + x/60 )

Cancel x from numerator and denominator and solve for average speed.
