First half speed = 40km/hr

Time taken = d/40

Remaining half distance 'd'

speed is = v

Time taken = d/v

Total time = d/40 + d/v

Total distance = 2d

Avg speed = Total dist/Total time

= 2d/ (d/40+d/v)

= 2 / (1/40+1/v) = 48

1/40 + 1/v = 1/ 24

40v / 40+v = 24

40v = 960 + 24v

16v = 960

v = 60km/hr
