Given:

  • Speed of car = 40 km/hr for 30 mins
  • Speed of car = 80 km/hr for 40 mins

To Find:

  • (i) The total distance travelled by the car.
  • (ii) The total time of travel.
  • (iii) The average speed of car.

Solution:

(i) The total distance travelled by the car = ?

In 30 minutes i.e. 0.5 hour, the car travelled at the speed of 50 km/hr.

Speed = Distance travelled/time taken

Distance = Speed × time

Distance = 50 × 0.5

Distance = 25 km

In 40 mins i.e. 0.6 hour, the car travelled at the speed of 80 km/hr.

Distance = 40 × 0.6

Distance = 24 km

∴ Therefore, The total distance covered by the car is 25 km + 24 km = 49km.
