Question:-

A car travels with uniform velocity of 40 m/s for 10s. The brakes are then applied and the car is uniformly retarded and comes to rest in further 8s. Find the distance travelled by the car after the brakes are applied.

To Find:-

Distance travelled by the car after brake.

Given:-

= 10sec ; a = - ? ; = 8sec ; u = 40m/s ; v = 0

Solution:-

v = u + at

=> 0 = 40 + 8a

=> -40 = 8a

=> a = -40/8

=> a = -5

Then the distance travelled by the car after brake applied.

s = ut +1/2 at²

s = 40(8) + 1/2 × 5 × 8 × 8

s = 320 + 160

s = 480m

Hence Proved
