Answer:

Retardation produced by the brakes is 0.125 m/s²

Explanation:

It is given that -

  • A car was moving at a rate of 18 km/h
  • When brakes are applied, it comes to rest in a distance of 100 m.

We have to find the deceleration produced by the brakes.

Solution:

Using equation of motion,

- = 2aS ..... (1)

where,

  • v = 0
  • u = 18 km/h
  • S = 100 m

Substitute the values in eq (1),

\longrightarrow a = \dfrac{-5 \times 5}{2 \times 100}

\longrightarrow a = - \dfrac{1}{5}

\longrightarrow a = - 0.125 m/s²

Hence, deceleration produced by the brakes is 0.125 m/
