Given:

A car was travelling at a constant speed for 40 minutes Just then, it met with an accident and its speed become three-fourth of its original speed Because of decreased speed, the journey after the accident took 70 more minutes than it would have taken if there was no accident.

To Find:

Find the total time taken by the car in this journey

210

250

320

none of these

Solution:

Let the total time taken be 't' and the total distance be 'x' and the normal speed of the car be 's', so the distance after the accident will be

Distance= total distance- distance covered

              =st-40s      -(1)

And the distance expression after the reduced speed will be and the time left will be after the accident (t+70-40)=t+30

So,

Distance=(3s/4)*(t+30)     -(2)

Now equating both the expression we have,

\frac{3s}{4}(t+30)=st-40s\\3st+90s=4st-160s\\st=250s\\t=250mins

so the time taken by the car will be (t+70)=250+70=320mins

Hence, the correct option is (c).
