Here,

Initial velocity = 12m/s

Final velocity = 0m/s ( car comes at rest)

A/q

Acceleration = v-u/t

Acceleration = 0-12/6

= -12/6

= -2 m/s2

Question:-

A car with a velocity 12m/s takes 6s to come to rest when the brakes are applied. Find deceleration.

To Find:-

  • Find the deceleration of the car.

Given:-

  • The car has a velocity of 12m/s and it applies brake for 6 seconds and car comes to rest.

Formulas:-

  • v = u + at
  • v² - u² = 2as
  • s = ut + 1/2 at²

Solution:-

u = 12 m/s ; v = 0 ; t = 6 sec ; a = ?

We have to find the acceleration for that we can use the acceleration formula and also first equation of motion formula.

\boxed{a \:  =  \:  \frac{v - u}{t}}

a \:  =  \frac{0  \:  -  \: 12}{6}  \\

a = -12/6

a = -2 m/s²

The deceleration of the car is -2 m/.
