EXPLANATION.

  • GIVEN

A car x starts at 5 p.m at a speed of 60 km/hr

another car y starts from the same point at

6.20 p. m at a speed of 80 km/hr.

TO FIND TIME WILL X AND Y MEET

EACH OTHER.

According to the question,

when car y start from the place car x has

travelled = 1 hrs 20 min

Distance = Speed X Time.

Distance travelled by car x before car y

starts.

=> 60 X 4/3 = 80 km

Let car y meets car x after t hours.

Distance travelled by car y =

=> ( 80 X t) km

Distance travelled by car x from starting

time to the time it meets car y

=> ( 80 + 60 X t ) km

when both car meets

Distance travelled by both car

=> ( 80 X t) = ( 80 + 60 X t )

=> 80t = 80 + 60t

=> 20t = 80

=> t = 4

Therefore,

x and y meets each other = 4 hours.
