Answer : 2/13

Given :-

A card is randomly selected from a standard 52-card deck.

To find :-

Find the probability that the card selected is either a queen or a 3?

Solution :-

Total number of playing cards in the deck of cards = 52

Total number of possible outcomes = 52

Number of queen cards = 4

number of favourable outcomes = 4

We know that

Probability of an event P(E)=

Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of possible outcomes

=> Probability of getting a queen card

=> P(Q)=4/52

=> P(Q)=1/13-------(1)

and

Number of cards of 3 = 4

Number of favourable outcomes to 3 = 4

We know that

Probability of an event P(E)=

Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of possible outcomes

=> Probability of getting 3 on a card

=> P(3) = 4/52

=> P(3) = 1/13------(2)

Now ,

Probability of getting either a queen or 3 card = P(Q)+P(3)

From (1)&(2)

=> (1/13)+(1/13)

=> (1+1)/13

=>2/13

Answer:-

Probability of getting either a queen or 3 card = 2/13

Used formulae:-

Probability of an event P(E)=

Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of possible outcomes
