Solution : Let, length and breadth of the floor be 10m and 8m respectively.
Now, by formula of area of rectangle;
➜ Area of floor = Length * Breadth
➜ Area of floor = 10 * 8
➜ Area of floor = 80 m²
Now, We take the combined length of the floor with the carpet and also we take the combined width of the floor with the carpet.
➜ New length = floor length + 2 * {width of carpet}
➜ New length = 10 + 2 * {2}
➜ New length = 10 + 4
➜ New length = 14 m
Similarly,
➜ New breadth = floor breadth + 2 * {width of carpet}
➜ New breadth = 8 + 2 * {2}
➜ New breadth = 8 + 4
➜ New breadth = 12 m
Now,
➜ Total area of floor with carpet = New length * New breadth
➜ Total area of floor with carpet = 14 * 12
