a carpet is placed in a room leaving a border of 1m wide all around the room if the room is 14m long and 10 m wide find the area uncovered by the carpet.​

Breadth of rectangle (room) = 10m

Area of room = l*b = 14*10 = 140m

Then it is given that 1m of border of the room is left uncovered by carpet

Length of carpet = 14-1 = 13 m

Breadth of carpet = 10-1 = 9m

Area of carpet = l*b = 13*9 = 117m

Therefore area uncovered by carpet = Area of room - Area of carpet = 140m - 117m = 23 m
