a carpet is placed in a room leaving a border of 1m wide all around the room if the room is 14m long and 10 m wide find the area uncovered by the carpet.​

Length of room = 14 m

Breadth of room = 10 m

Area of room = ( 14 × 10 ) m^2

= 140 m^2

Length of carpet = ( 14 - 2 ) m

= 12 m

Breadth of carpet = ( 10 - 2 ) m

= 8 m

Area of carpet = ( 12 × 8 ) m^2

= 96 m^2

Area of uncovered part = 140 m^2 - 96 m^2

= 44 m^2
