Que :- A carpet measures 24m by 16m. a strip of 2m wide is cut off from it all around. Find the area of the reamining carpet and also the area of the strip cut out?

Solution:-

Area of the Carpet = Length × Breadth

=> 24 × 16
=> 384 m^2.

By cutting off strip of 2m from all sides.

Length = 24 - 2 - 2 = 20m
Breadth = 16 - 2 - 2 = 12m

Area of Remaining Carpet = 20 × 12
=>240 m^2

Area of Cutted off carpet = Area of Carpet - Area of remaining Carpet

=> 384 - 240
=> 144 m^2.

Length = 24 m and width = 16 m as it is cut 2 m from all sides
length of remaining = (24 – 2 – 2) = 20 m
width of remaining = (16 – 2 – 2) = 12 m
area of remaining = 20 × 12 = 240 m²

area of strip = area of original – area of original
= (24 × 16) – 240
= 384 – 240 = 144 m²
