A carpet measures 3 m X 2 m. A strip of 0.25 m wide is cut off from it on all sides. Find the area of the remaining carpet and also find the area of strip cut out.
Answers
Answer :
★ Area of the remaining carpet = 3.75 m²
★ Area of the strip cut out = 2.25 m²
Given :
- Length of the carpet = 3 m
- Breadth of the carpet = 2 m
- Width of the strip cut off from the sides of the carpet = 0.25 m
To find :
- Area of the remaining strip
- Area of the strip cut out
Concept :
Firstly, calculate the area of the whole carpet. Then subtract (0.25 + 0.25) m from the dimensions of the whole carpet. The resultant values will be the dimensions of the remaining carpet. To calculate the area of the strip cut out, subtract the area of the remaining carpet from the area of the whole carpet.
Formula to calculate area of rectangle :-
- Area of rectangle = l × b
where,
- l denotes the length
- b denotes the breadth
Solution :
Area of the whole carpet :-
➪ Area of the whole carpet = l × b
Substituting the given values,
➪ Area of the whole carpet = 3 × 2
➪ Area of the whole carpet = 6
- Area of the whole carpet = 6 m²
Dimensions of the remaining carpet :-
→ Length of the remaining carpet = 3 - (0.25 + 0.25)
→ Length of the remaining carpet = 3 - 0.5
→ Length of the remaining carpet = 2.5 m
→ Breadth of the remaining carpet = 2 - (0.25 + 0.25)
→ Breadth of the remaining carpet = 2 - 0.5
→ Breadth of the remaining carpet = 1.5 m
Therefore,
- Length and breadth of the remaining carpet = 2.5 m and 1.5 m respectively
Area of the remaining carpet :-
➪ Area of the remaining carpet = l × b
Substituting the given values,
➪ Area of the remaining carpet = 2.5 × 1.5
➪ Area of the remaining carpet = 3.75
- Area of the remaining carpet = 3.75 m²
→ Area of the strip cut out = Area of the whole carpet - Area of the remaining carpet
→ Area of the strip cut out = 6 - 3.75
→ Area of the strip cut out = 2.25 m²
- Area of the strip cut out = 2.25 m²
