ATQ, we have:

  • A rectangular carpet of measurement 5m × 2m
  • It has a 25 cm wide red border and the inner portion of carpet is blue.

Need to find:

  • The area of blue portion.
  • The ratio of the area of red potion to blue portion.

Area of blue portion:

As from the attachment, we can see that measurement of blue portion:

Width of border: 25 cm = 0.25 m

  • Length of blue portion = 5m - 0.25m = 4.75m
  • Breadth of blue portion = 2m - 0.25m = 1.75m

Area: Length × Breadth

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀= 4.75 × 1.75

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀= 8.3125/ 8.31m²

Ratio of area from red portion to blue portion:

Let us, first find the area of red portion and will calculate the ratio then:

Area of red portion,

= Total area of carpet - area of blue portion

= ( length × breadth ) - 8.31

= ( 5 × 2 ) - 8.31

= 10 - 8.31

= 1.69m²

Ratio:

= {\sf{\dfrac{Area\;of\; red \;portion}{Area\;of \;blue\;portion}}}

= {\sf{\dfrac{1.69}{8.31}}}

= {\sf{\dfrac{1.6}{8.3}}} (Approx)
