A cart of mass 5 kg is moving on a straight
and smooth track with a speed of 10 ms. A
mass of 2 kg is gently put on it. What will be
the velocity of the cart if the block does not
slide on the cart?

Answer:

Explanation:

Mass of cart ,   M = 5 kg and   speed of cart, V = 10m/s

Let mass m=2 kg  put into cart with speed v

According to law of conservation of momentum (newton's second law)

MV=mv

5 x 10 = (5+2) x v

v = 8 m/s

now velocity of cart after put 2 kg is 8 m/s
