A carton board ( 4 ft × 4 ft ) has the queen at the centre . The queen , hit by the tiger moves to front age, rebounds and goes into whole behind the starting line. find the magnitude of displacement of the queen :
a ] from the centre of the front age
b ]
from frontage to whole and

Answer:

hi mate.

here is your answer,

actually it is not carton board , it is a carom board.

so,

When a queen hit by striker from the center it displaced to O to A , then it rebounds and goes in the hole at B. Draw a normal at point A , using Law of reflection . Draw a perpendicular from point O at point C .

Let AC = x ,then AD = 2 - x .

refer to the picture.

a) To find magnitude of displacement of queen

From the figure,

2 / x = 4 / 2 - x

2 - x = 2x

3x = 2

x = 2/3 .

Magnitude s1 = 2/3 ^ i + 2 ^ j

| s 1 | = √ 4 / 9 + 4 = 2 / 3 √ 10 = 2.02 feet.

b) From the front edge to the hole

When the queen, rebounds and goes to the hole , it's displacement is AC . From the triangle CDA , hence

s2 = √ 16 / 9 - 16 = 4 / 3 = √ 10 = 4.21 feet .

c) From the center to the hole .

Let draw a line OC , which is the total displacement from center to the hole.

s3 = s1 + s2

s3 = 2 / 3 ^ i + 2^j + 4 / 3 ^ i - 4^j

s3 = 2^i + 2^j

| s3 |= 2 √ 2 = 2.82 feet.

Hope it helps you mate.
