A caterpillar does not stay a caterpillar to it's entire life it changes into a butterfly.

Explanation:

  • The caterpillar is a larval (developing) stage of insects belonging to Order Lepidoptera of Class Insecta.
  • A caterpillar passes through 4 to 6 different stages called instar before it reaches maturity.
  • The caterpillar then enters into pupa which is a quiescent stage. The pupae do not possess any mouth parts and hence they do not eat anything. After sometime a winged insect emerges out from pupa.
  • Theses adult insects called as moths or butterflies as the case may be and are the sexual form of caterpillars. They fly, eat nectar and breed to produce next generation.
