In the above Question , the following information is given :

A CD player was sold for 5,130 after giving successive discounts of 5%, 10% and 25%, respectively.

To find -

What was the price marked on the CD player?

What single discount is equivalent to the given three successive discounts?

Solution -

Here ,

A CD player was sold for 5,130 after giving successive discounts of 5%, 10% and 25%, respectively.

Now , let is assume that the marked Price of this CD player is Rs . X

Now ,

After the first discount -

New Price

=> 95% of x .

After the second discount -

New Price -

=> 90% of 95% of x .

After the third discount ,

New Price -

=> 75% of 90% of 95% of X .

But , this is equal to Rs. 5130 .

So ,

75% of 90% of 95% of x = 5130

=> 0.75 × 0.9 × 0.95 X = 5130

=> 0.064125 x = 5130

=> 8000

Hence , the required marked Price of the CD player is Rs. 8000 .

Now ,

Let us assume that the cost of the CD player is x .

=> 5%× 10% × 25% x

=> [ 5 / 100 ] × [ 1 / 10 ] × [ 1 / 4 ] x .

=> [ 1 / 800 ] x

=> [ { 1 / 8 } / 100 ] x

=> Discount -

=> 1.25 x.

This is the required answer .
