Cells combine to form tissues, which further combine to form organs, organs combine to form organic systems, which further combine to form organism. So, cell is the basic structural unit for all unicellular and multicellular organisms.

cell are called building blocks of life. They are called so because they are basic structural and functional units of our life. The building blocks of all 'living organisms' are living cells. They repeated themselves to form tissues.
