The cell swells up in a hypotonic solution. This is because the higher concentration of water molecules is outside the cell. So, the watermolecules move from external solution into cell sap. The solution is a hypotonic solution.

Hello my dear friend here's ur Answer hope it helps
There are 3 types of solution in biology
Hypo Tonic
Iso Tonic
Hyper Tonic
here we know that cell is swelled so of the cell is swelled then it is Hypo tonic solution
in hypo tonic solution the cell will have less quantity of water than in the solvent so it gains water and swells
therefore it swells only when the solution is hypo tonic
thanks hope it helps
