cell membrane is semi permeable. It allows only some substances to enter the cell. these reach the cell by process of diffusion

The nutrients and water required by the cell reach inside the cell through the selectively permeable membrane or the cells membrane by the processes of diffusion and osmosis. Diffusion is the flow of substances from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. Osmosis is the movement of water through the selectively permeable membrane from a region of higher concentration of water to a region of lower concentration of water.
