head lost due to friction in suction and deliv-

Efficiency = water power/shaft power

As the efficiency is 100%, water power is equal to shaft power.

So, in order to lift the water to a height of 40 m and  head losses (4m) in suction and delivery pipe. we have to supply 44 m of head as shaft power.

Work done by the pump is is 44 m.
