Question :- A ceramic sugar bowl weighs 340 grams when empty. It is then filled with sugar. One tablespoon of sugar weighs 12.5 grams. Write an equation to represent the relationship between the total weight of the bowl in grams, W, and the tablespoons of sugar, T. ?

Solution :-

Given that, weight of sugar bowl when empty is 340gm.

Than, it is filled with sugar.

Let ,

→ Total weight of the bowl after sugars filled = W grams.

→ Total number of tablespoons used to fill the bowl = T .

So,

→ weight of 1 tablespoon of sugar = 12.5grams.

Than,

weight of T tablespoon of sugar = 12.5 * T = (12.5T) grams.

we can conclude that, (12.5T) grams of sugar was filled inside .

Therefore,

Total weight of bowl = weight of bowl when it was empty + Total weight of sugar filled inside .

Putting all values we get,

→ W = (340 + 12.5T)

→ W = (12.5T + 340) grams.

Hence, required equation to represent the relationship between the total weight of the bowl in grams is (12.5T + 340).
