a certain amount of money is shared in the ratio 2:3:9. if the difference between the first and second share is $40, then what is the amount of money?

Answer:

let 1 of ratio be x.

Then 3x-2x = $40

x = 40

Then, the problem becomes very easy

2 x 40 = $80

3 x 40 = $120

9 x 40 = $360

Total money = $ 80 + $120 + $360 = $560

There is also a second method

40 (2+3+9)

= 40 x 14

= $560
