Given:

Total coloured pens = 3 - Blue, black and red

Probability of choosing black pen = P1 = 1/4

Probability of choosing blue pen = P2 = 1/6

To Find:

Probability of choosing red pen = P3 ?

Solution:

The combined probability of pens -

P1 + P2 + P3 = 1

Substituting the values -

1/4 + 1/6 + P3 = 1

10/24 + P3 = 1

5/12 + P3 = 1

P3 = 1 - 5/12

P3 = 12 - 5 /12

P3 = 7/12

Answer: Probability of choosing red pen is 7/12
