Question:-
A certain brand soap-powder is sold at ₹15 per packet. It costs ₹144 a dozen. what is the profit or loss in percent on 8 dozen packet?
Solution:-
Given:- a) A certain brand soap-powder is sold at ₹15 per packet.
b) It costs ₹144 a dozen.
Find :- profit or loss in percent on 8 dozen packet ?
Now,
we know that 1 dozen mean's 12 packets of soap-powder
so,hence
1 dozen = 12 packets of soap-powder
from given ( a )
Cost of 12 packets of soap-powder OR
one dozen of soap-poweder packets
= ₹(12 × cost of one packet)
= ₹(12 × 15)
= ₹ 180 ........... ( 1 )
from given ( b ) & ( 1 )
cost price of 8 dozen soap-powder
packets = ₹ (8 × 144) = ₹ 1152 ....( 3 )
selling price of 8 dozen soap-powder packets = ₹ (8 × 180)
= ₹ 1440 ....( 4 )
From ( 3 ) and ( 4 )
we know selling price > cost price
so its a profit
=> Profit = selling price - cost price
=> Profit = ₹ ( 1440 - 1152 )
=> Profit = ₹ 288
=> Profit percentage
= ( profit / cost price ) × 100
=> Profit percentage
= (288/1152)×100
=> Profit percentage
= ( 1/4 )×100
=> Profit percentage
= 0.25 × 100
=> Profit Percentage
= 25 %
Hence profit is ₹ 288 and profit percentage 25 % on 8 dozen
soap-powder packets.

- Total profit percent is equal to 25%.
Given :- A certain brand soap - powder is sold at ₹15 per packet. It costs ₹144 a dozen.
To Find :- Total profit or loss percentage .
Formula used :-
- When selling price (SP) is greater than cost price (CP) , the seller has profit .
- When selling price (SP) is less than cost price (CP) , the seller has loss .
- Profit / Loss % = (Profit / Loss in Rs. × 100) ÷ CP
- 1 dozen = 12 items .
Solution :-
given that,
→ Cost of 1 dozen of soap powder packet = ₹144
So,
→ Cost of 8 dozen of soap powder packets = 8 × Cost of 1 dozen of soap powder packet = 8 × 144 = ₹1152
now,
→ Selling price of 1 soap powder packet = ₹15
→ Selling price of 8 dozen soap powder packets = (8 × 12) × Selling price of 1 soap powder packet = 96 × 15 = ₹1440
as we can see that,
→ ₹1440 > ₹1152
→ Selling price of 8 dozen soap powder packets > Cost of 8 dozen of soap powder packets .
therefore,
→ Total profit = SP - CP
→ Total profit = 1440 - 1152 = ₹288
hence,
→ Profit % = (Total profit × 100) ÷ CP
→ Profit % = (288 × 100) ÷ 1152
→ Profit % = (288 × 100) ÷ (4 × 288)
→ Profit % = 100 ÷ 4
→ Profit % = 25% (Ans.)
∴ The profit percent is equal to 25%.
