For one hour 5°C is lowered. For 12 h it will be 5 x 12 = 60°C.

Now subtract 60 frrom 40. 40 - 60 = -20°C is the room temperature after 12 hours.

room temperature =40°c
decrease per hour =5°c
temperature after 12 hours =40- (5×12)=40-60=
-20°c
