A certain manufacturing process yields electrical fuses of which, in the long run, 15% are defective. What is the probability that in a sample of 10 fuses selected at random there will be: (a) no defectives, or (b) at least one defective?

Probability of no defectives will be - 0.196.

Probability of at least one defective will be = 0.80.

Probability of defective fuse in overall manufacturing is 0.15.

Probability of correct fuse in overall manufacturing will, hence be, 1-0.15

= 0.85.

Now, probability of no defectives, in 10 samples will be calculated by -

0.85^10

Probability of no defectives will be - 0.196.

Probability of at least one defective will be = 1 - (0.85^10)

= 0.80.
