Given :  A certain number N when divided by p and q leaves remainder 1, where p and q are positive integers. p/q = 5/4 ,

To Find : the value of N

Solution:

let say p = 5k

and q = 4k

N   = 5k.a  + 1 => N - 1 = 5ka

N =   4k.b  + 1 => N - 1 =  4kb

5ka = 4kb

= 20c

=> N - 1 = 20c

=> N = 20c  + 1
