let , the number of men is x.

100x/120 = x - 20

10x/12= x - 20
10x = 12x - 240
2x =240
x = 120

there were 120 men.

Answer:

There are 120 men

Step-by-step explanation:

let , the number of men is x.

A certain number of men can finish a piece of work in 100 days

Work done = 100x

there were 20 men less it will take 20 days more for the work to be finished.

So, Number of men =x-20

No. of days =120

Work done = 120(x-20)

100x=120(x-20)

\frac{100}{120}=x-20

x=120

Hence there were 120 men.
