A certain number of men can finish the given work in 40 days. if there are 9 less men, the work will be done 15 days later. find how many men were orignally there.

Let the original number of men be x.

Now x men finish the work in 40 days.

(x+12) men can finish it in 30 days

Therefore, More men, less days

(x+12):x=40:30

40x = 30x + 360

10x = 360

x = 36
