SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • A certain number of men complete a piece of work in 20 days

  • If 2 men were excluded it would take 4 days more to complete.

TO DETERMINE

The number of men originally work here

EVALUATION

Let the number of men originally work here = x

Then x men complete a piece of work in 20 days

Now it is given that if 2 men were excluded it would take 4 days more to complete.

So ( x - 2) complete the same work in ( 20 + 4) = 24 days

Here the number of men and the number of days are in inverse proportion

Hence

 \sf{x : (x - 2) = 24 : 20}

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \:  \frac{x}{(x - 2)}   =  \frac{24}{20} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: 24x - 48 = 20x}

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: 24x -  20x = 48}

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: 4x = 48}

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \: x = 12}

Hence the number of men originally work here = 12

FINAL ANSWER

The number of men originally work here = 12
