Let the sum be x,

we know,

amount = sum \times (1 +  \frac{rate}{100} ) {}^{n}

where n=no.of years,

putting given values from question:

2970.25 = x \times (1 +  \frac{9}{100}) {}^{2}

2970.25 = x \times  \frac{109}{100}  \times  \frac{109}{100}

 =  > x =  \frac{2970.25 \times 100 \times 100}{109 \times 109}

x = 2500 \:  \: (answer)
