"Every shuttle that is being launched into space is covered by around 24000 blocks of tiles which are made with the combination of Silica fibres, water, and other chemicals.
The main purpose of these tiles are to protect the orbiter's aluminium skin at less than 350 degrees.
These tiles are coated with compounds of silica and aluminium oxide to withstand temperatures up to 1200 degrees.
These tiles come under TPS which is thermal protection system in Space shuttle."
