A certain volume of gas is kept at 77°C. When the temperature is decreased by 20°C the gas occupies a volume of 900mL. what was the initial volume of the gas [ pressure constant]

Explanation:

As at constant pressure , for same amount of same gas, Volume occupied is directly proportional to the Temperature (in kelvin)

> V1 = k. T1

=> V1/T1 = k = V2/T2 Or V1 = T1/T2 × V2

As V2 ( final volume) = 900 ml, T2 = (77-20) °c = 57+273K

=> T2 = 330K , similarly T1 = 350K

=> V1 = 350 /330 × 900 = 954 ml( approax)
