Let the cost of chair be Rs.X and so of table as Rs.Y..

Given: Rs.X + Rs.Y= Rs.100

Also given X= Y-16 Rs.

so, (Y-16) + Y =100

2Y= 116 Rs.

Y = 116/2= Rs.58

X= 58 - 16= 42 Rs.

The cost of table is Rs 58 .

Given :

A chair and a table together cost Rs 100.

Also , chair costs Rs.16 less than table .

Let , price of chair is x and price of table is y .

So , mathematical equation of expression 1 .

x + y = 100    .....( 1 )

Also , for second expression :

y - 16 = x

y = x + 16      .....( 2 )

Putting value of y from 2 to equation 1 .

x + ( x + 16 ) = 100

2x = 84

x = 42

Therefore :

y = 42 + 16

y = 58

Therefore , the cost of table is Rs 58 .
